He was dying and all to protect his friend.

Naminé couldn’t help but tell him he’d be okay. Would he be? Cloud was immediately by his side, cuts and bruises all over his face. He had been the fight too, trying to protect Zack from the drunk, mindless idiots. She couldn’t look, but as Zack told Cloud he’d see him in the next life – an idea popped into her head.

She got Cloud to help her carry Zack to the sleeping room. The room Sora had been in a year earlier. It was perfect. It would heal Zack, but... there was a catch.

He would forget someone very important.

Naminé spoke quickly, hoping that Zack would remember her voice as the capsule closed.

Zack was happily talking with Aerith, a long lost friend. They were close, and he could slowly feel himself falling in love with her. Though, something didn’t feel right. As if someone was pulling him away from his newly discovered feelings.

Zack could tell Cloud anything, they were still as close as they had been since he had been in the coma. Once again, as they both turned to leave – he felt another odd pulling sensation at his heart.

Blonde hair, blue eyes. Blonde hair, blue eyes.

Who was this girl? Why was she constantly on Zack’s mind, wherever he went?

Although, he could see her perfectly now. Thinking of her, it relieved a suppressed pain and brought agonizing memories to the surface. The state he had been in before his coma... had been gruesome. No wonder he could only remember so much.

Her smile was absolutely breath taking. He wanted to find her, but he had to tell Aerith about her first. It would be the right thing to do.

As he went to the church, he was surprised to find the blonde haired girl.

It had began to rain, drenching Zack quickly. He wanted to know who she was. He yelled at her, demanding a name – a memory, anything.

“Naminé.”

Oh. Naminé... Zack immediately apologized, relief flooding through his mind. Although he wanted to stay, he wanted to find Aerith. It seemed obvious to Naminé, that Zack was choosing the prettier and older girl over herself. With a final wave, Zack left. Leaving their memories and time behind.

A month passed.

No physiatrist could get her to say a word - no matter what method they used. Every time they would ask her what was wrong, all she could think of was Zack. They were getting tired of her and as her session ended, they left. She was a hopeless case.

Suddenly, she found a boy on the ground. A friend, she had known. Sora!

He had small bruises on his arm, and the physiatrist was yelling at him. Protecting him, Naminé stood in between the two, forgetting all about Zack. Oh, Zack. Her heart longed for him. But it was too late, everything was over.

The female physiatrist raised her hand, causing Naminé to bring her hands up to protect her.. Zack. Zack. Zack. Save me.

With a blow to the head, Naminé was struck to the floor where her eyes fluttered closed. Just like Zack’s had. Except, she knew no one was going to save her.

***

Heading to Aerith’s house, Zack’s phone began to rang. He picked it up and heard Sora’s voice. He had been crying.

“I’m sorry... Naminé has passed away.”

Overcome by emotions, Zack ran to the church, where he said his last goodbye to his cherished friend. Crying, he reached out to the sky, to see Naminé, smiling as she disappeared to heaven.
